Voyage of Vrindavan, Mathura - The adobe of Lord Krishna


 About

Vrindavan is a holy place in Uttar Pradesh, India. The place is famous for various Lord Krishna temple, and many festivals and fairs. It is one of the pilgrimage site of Hindus. The name Vrindavan comprises of two words 'vrinda' means 'basil' and 'van' means 'forest'. It is believed that the Lord Krishna spent his childhood in Vrindavan. Mathura and Vrindavan called as Twin City. Mathura is also holy site for Hindus and called the heart of Brij Bhoomi, the land of Lord Krishna. Mathura located approx 57.6 km north of Agra and 166 km south east of Delhi and about 14.5 km from Vrindavan. Mathura is considered as birthplace of Lord Krishna. Vrindavan is 11 km from away from Mathura. This town host many temples dedicated to the worship of Radha & Krishna. 

How to reach

  • Air : the nearest airport is Kheria airport in Agra, Uttar Pradesh (53 km) from Mathura. There are regular flights available to other important cities in India via Agra airport also. Taxis are also available for Mathura from Delhi and as well as from Agra for Mathura. 
  • Railway : The regular trains are not available from other major cities of the country. The nearest station is Mathura Jun.  which is at distance of 9 kms. You can get specific information from the Indian Railway website. 
  • Roadways : The roads to Mathura are in good condition and connected to all major cities in country. One can easily travel to Agra to Vrindavan by road. The luxury buses are available Delhi to Mathura and Agra to Mathura. The distance from Mathura to Vrindavan is 15-18 km via NH 19 or NH 44. Yamuna expressway is best option to reach Mathura efficiently from New Delhi. The toll rates for 2-3 wheelers are 175. You can also choose your own vehicle to visit there. 

Best season to visit 

The best time to visit Mathura is October- November as the place provide scenic views of surrounding. The winter is also good time to visit there as the temperature remains comfortable and is good for visiting temples and monuments. 

Where to stay 

Mathura hotels are more plentiful than hotels of Vrindavan. If you are interested in experiencing the ancient spiritual side of Vrindavan then to stay nearer Banke Bihari Temple is better option which is close to old town. 

Food and shopping 

One can must try Samosa kachori, puri aloo, Jalebi, khaman dhokla, milk dishes such as sweets, lassi, peda, khoya sweets, soan papdi, ghewar and chaat. The most famous dish of Mathura is peda and puri- kachori. 

Many handicrafts trinkets related to lord Krishna are available at large number of shops. 

Places of interest 

Prem Mandir

Prem Mandir is in Vrindavan and managed by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat ( it is an international non- profit, educational charitable trust). The temple is dedicated to Radhe-Krishna and Sita-Ram. The temple is spread on 55 acre site on the outskirts of Vrindavan. The environment of temple is very clean and mesmerizing. The temple designing is too good and architecture of this temple is spectacular. The temple experience so much crowd on Saturday and Sunday. The best thing is the water sprinkler projection and all the jhankias. 

Banke Bihari Temple

Banke Bihari Temple is in holy city of Vrindavan in Mathura district. It is located near Shri Radha Vallabh Temple. The temple followed Radha-vallabh tradition dedicated to Krishna. The temple was constructed in year 1864 and it is the oldest temple of Vrindavan.

Darshan timing in morning - 7:45 am to 12 pm 

Shringar Aarti - 8:00 am 

Raj bhog - 11:00 am to 11:30 am

Shayan bhog - 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Shayan aarti and closing - 9:30 pm

Winter (after Diwali ) 

Darshan timing in morning- 8:45 am to 1:00 pm

Shringar aarti - 9:00 am

Raj bhog - 12:00 pm to 12:00 pm

Raj bhog and closing - 1:00 pm

Darshan time in evening - 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Shayan bhog - 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Shayan aarti and closing - 8:30 pm

Nidhivan 


Nidhivan is a place full of mystery. The locals and pilgrims believed that every single night the Lord Krishna visit Nidhivan and conducts his leela. There is also a believed that trees Nidhivan are Gopis and their intertwisted shape is the tang of love between them. There is also a mystery that the shape and size of trees of nidhivan are short and intertwisted having same size and height. 

ISKCON Temple


ISKCON temple or Krishna-Balram Mandir is a Gaudiya Vaishnavism temple. The temple is dedicated to lord Krishna and Balram. The other god of temple are Radha Krishna and Gauranga Nityanand. The temple was built in 1977. It is located in Raman Reti area of Vrindavan. The temple is very beautiful and grand and it fills you with inner peace and serenity. 

Krishna Janmbhoomi , Mathura


This temple believed to be the place where Hindu diety Krishna born. This place is complex of group of hindu temples. This is the most famous place of Mathura. Inside temple there is paintings of scenes from Krishna's life, idol of Krishna, Balram, Radha and stepped water tank. This place is very nice. Mobile phones, cameras and luggages are not allowed inside the temple. There are lots of shops inside and outside the temple. The Krishna Janmbhoomi is situated in busy street where you can find large number of eateries with delicious taste and variety. 

Barsana - Radha Rani Temple


Barsana is historical town in Mathura district. It is believed to be the home of Hindu Goddess Radha. It is located in Braj region. Barsana is also popular for lathmaar holi which is the depiction of ancient tradition of playing holi with sticks and shields with colours. The main attraction of this place is Radha Rani Temple. The temple is very beautiful with divine atmosphere. The temple is very colourful and properly maintained. If you are visiting Vrindavan Mathura, then you should must explore this place. 

Govardhan Temple


A must visit place. The temple is located at Goverdhan , 22 km away from Mathura , on road link between Mathura and Deeg. Here hill is worshipped as God. People believed that lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan hill to save the people of Gokul from lord Indra. The devotees come here and do the parikrama of hill.

Kusum Sarovar

People believed that at this place Radha Rani used to come to collect flower and hence, the name originates - Kusum which means flower and Sarovar for pond. The sarovar is a scared water reservoir. The sarovar is located on the holy Govardhan hill between Manasi Ganga and Radha Kund. It is the best piece of architecture. One should must visit there. 

Govind Dev Temple


This is one of the most famous temple of Vrindavan. The architecture of this temple is very impressive and attractive. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna who is also called as Govind. If the sculpture and architecture can speak , then they will tell the glory of craftsmanship of the artists. This place is wonderful and different from modern temple. one should must visit this place. 

Dwarkadhish Temple


This is one of the holiest temple of Mathura with great sculpture and architecture. The temple is managed by followers of Vaishnava sect. The temple is situated in very narrow lane, so one should park their vehicle at main road and reach the place by auto or rickshaw. I would suggest to must attend the evening aarti. People who go there can also enjoy boat ride at Yamuna river as the temple is located near the ghats of Yamuna. Photography is not allowed in this temple. The morning closing time of temple is 11 am. Delicious chaat and other snacks are available near temple. 

Some Do's and Don't

  • Keep your mobile phone safe as many smartphones are stolen daily.
  • Don't tease the monkey and beware of them because monkeys in Vraj Bhoomi can snatch things from your hands easily. 
  • Don't speak much to sadhus or priests. Just offer with folded hands. Don't give them temple donations at random places.
  • Don't criticize Vraj vasi and don't use bad language as it might hurt their sentiments. 
  • Must take a boat ride to Yamuna River.
  • Must try Lassi and Peda.
Is Vrindavan , Mathura worth visit ?

Anyone who is interested in spirituality and hindu culture then they must visit Vrindavan and Mathura. The place is very beautiful covered from all three sides with river Yamuna. Seriously, the art work, the beauty and the feel I never get from any place. Personally, I feel very pleasurable when I am at this place. So, I would say this place is worth visiting.
